Hi Douw Check the size of the radiator because Toyota Radiators are deeper and narrower I think than the Lada one so it might not fit?? Ari Hey Ari, as you saw yesterday space is a bit restricted so I'd like to use the Niva radiator once I've had it flushed properly.

Hi Douw
It really looks pretty good. I note you still have a clutch pedal... ;-) I imagine that could also be up for sale?

I managed to find a Cressida shifter at he scrap yard. Stripped in down and gave it a good clean. Used some roof sealer to cover the plates that I rivited over the old gear shift holes. Have ordered Targa sound deadening material to redo the whole car.

Hi Douw
I often wondered whether the Ford 2500 TD (LDV) rear axle - which came with Difflocks, could be used in 2WD conversions like yours.
A Difflock would still make the Lada very competitive - but the biggest disadvantage would be that the Lada rims do not fit to the Ford axles...

Hi Douw
I would not even waste money on a diff lock for a rear wheel drive only vehicle unless you want to move the like of a caravan on grass. A 2 wheel drive with diff lock can in general go NOWHERE that a 4x4 can go.

Hi Ronnie
From my farming experience with 2WD tractors I know that a difflock can indeed make a huge difference - specially in mud, or slippery conditions.
It all depends for what purpose the vehicle will be used for .

2WD with DL can go many places but not everywhere. The biggest factor of where a vehicle can/cannot go is the driver.

Difflock would be a nice to have but not essential for me. Ironically, many years ago I was driving on the road between Walvis Bay and Swakop when I spotted someone paragliding off the dunes right next to the road. He had parked his little yellow citi golf at the bottom of the dune which was about 100m away from the road. I was driving a Ford 2500TD. Hit the difflock switch and easy as pie I'd be parked next to the citi golf, in theory anyways! I followed the citi golfs tracks to be safe and I hadn't even gotten 20m off the road and......... ZZZZZZZZZTTT!! I had to get a Toyota Landcruiser to tow me out...

Hi Douw
If you have a 4x4 then fit a diff lock to the back and you will be virtually unstoppable. If you have a 4x2 do not waste your money. IN GENERAL a 4x2 with diff lock can go NOWHERE a 4x4 can go. Like Douw we had a ford with rear diff lock and it was a waste of time.

I took the radiator to Siverton to have them clean it out. They say it's leaking and unrepairable. I'll have to have a new one made up. I've fitted some of the sound deadaning mat today. It's not a difficult job, just very time consuming.

Hi Douw
All these jobs which look easy are very time consuming. Your sound deadening looks good, but no doubt the fumes off the glue had you half drunk. ;D

Thanks Ronnie. It's actually a very easy product to use. It's self adhesive, a lot like roof sealer strips, so there aren't any fumes.

Douw, that looks fantastic!
Is it carpet or rubber (or other) that you used on the floor?
Would I be right to suppose that you are not going to put the back seat in again?
