Hi David Warm welcome to the forum Suddenly many guys and gals are looking for Nivas. There was a time when the market was flooded but it now seems that "A Lada For Sale" is getting quite rare these days. One route for you to take is to get into contact with Ventz Lazarov in Pietermaritzburg. He rebuilds these Nivas into good as new condition. You will find his details here >> locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sparep&action=display&thread=652Good hunting Marius

I am a new member and found your website as I was browsing the net. I have a 1600 or 1700 carb Lada. The tensioner snapped and this damaged the internalls. Thank you for your very interesting website. Are there any members living in Pretoria that can advise me on where I can buy parts? I look forward to Lada along.

Welcome to the forum, Gerhard!! Sorry to see that you have trouble with your NIVA. You can find Centurion Lada either in Phonebook or on their website. Several members report good service from him as far as spares supplies go Have you removed the cylinder head to determine the damages? A typical example of "misinformation" from workshops leading to the sale of a perfect NIVA can be found here: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=394The names and telephone numbers of the stockists Ihar referred to can be found on our website by clicking the "Technical" button Good luck with the rebuild Spikes

Hi everyone, I found this site when I did a search for ''lada for sale.''
I'm looking for a VERY reliable Lada that will take me on my african travels safely, being a girl ( and thats no excuse ) my mechanical skills are limited to oil and air filter changes, changing tyres and jump starting batteries , and hence if I'm going to be heading into deep dark africa alone, I need a car that will get me home to.
My first Lada sadly did not have that ability and left me stranded many, many times. So with heavy heart I sold her. ( it was not the cars fault, it was the previous owners fault that made very poor mechanical decisions ), but none the less, I loved her and hope to find a new one soon.

Welcome Marina! If you are prepared to pay R30 000 or more you should be able to find a sound Niva - BUT don't let the price be your only guide. Test drive the car - and not just around the block As far as the Niva is concerned - availability of parts could be an issue in some countries, with the possible exception for those who had good ties with the old Soviet Union like Mozambique and Angola and a few others. I think you can even get parts for the Niva in Egypt. Probably the best bet in Africa is to get an old Toyota Cruiser or a Defender. I don't want to sound condescending but I have to say for a woman to travel alone in Africa (SA included) can be a very dangerous undertaking but I am sure you have lots of experience. Regards Marius

Welcome Carel.
The disks you can get from autozone, and the details are on the spare parts list on the site.
With regards to the engine, all the parts are available quite cheaply from overseas if you can wait for them to arrive.

Hi. I found out about this forum while searching for more info on a lada niva. I bought my first one a week ago! Looks like its going to be a lot of fun but I suspect I already need to replace the clutch. Any advice? I am in johannesburg. Thanks for this great forum!

Hi Nicola
Welcome to the Forum. I am not sure if Hercules still does repairs or not. He is in Benoni. Other members who are more in touch than me now will assist you.

Welcome Nicola, Hope you enjoy the NIVA and our forum! Have a look around. There is a huge amount of information in the threads. Do download the manual and spares manual from "technical" in the website (big blue button above the forum index). There is a strong support group in Jhb. They will be along later with assistance offers Spikes

When I bought my 2000 Lada Niva 1.7 Sidekick in Feb this year, I figured there must be some website or blog site for Lada owners similar to the 4x4 community site, and came across this one, which to me personally is much better than the 4x4 community site...
