Hi I am SJ from Umkomaas sorry for making you guys skrik for using the username sj if I had put Stephen from Paarl it might have created some confusion as I am origionally from Paarl too and to Stephen from Paarl I can relate to everything you've been through with your Lada as 2 years ago the same thing happened to me and I too made lemonade out of the lemon and now I'm getting the bonus I not only have to learn how to use a spanner, I now too have to learn how to use a computer as I need a friend to help me with it (staying in touch with the forum) the J in SJ will be back on the 7th March presently in Nelspruit welcoming our first grandchild to the world so please be patient with me up until possibly still after she is back too

Hi Stephen J (I hope the name is acceptable) Good explanation - your last post (above) gave me a groot skrik though . When I saw the name "Klippies" I immediately thought it's the short for "Klipdrift" - not a nice name for a Lada at all ! But reading further I realized that the Lada is indeed in good hands ..... I can feel your excitement about your first grandchild ! Please keep us updated in this regard ! Our third one was due on 31 January - but the little one decided to show everyone who's the Boss - will now finally be born on Monday! Regards Danie

Hi Stephen (SJ)
I see you are very close to me as I am in Pennington. Like me you will have to learn fast how to use a computer if you want to keep in touch. The Niva is also the easiest vehicle to learn on as it is simple in construction. Let us know what type of voluntary work you do in the KZN mountains

Hi everyone I am new at this as I am BBT[BORN BEFORE TECHNOLOLGY] I sure am glad the site is up and running again as I find it hugely informative and entertaining . I drove in my first LADA in 1986 on the island of St MAARTEN which is in the Caribbean and decided I NEEDED one. So I have only just bought mine last year A real heap of rubbish !! Anyway I blundered on with no info and seemingly gold plated spares. A long story later it is now on the road but a long way from standard It started off bog standard but due to lack of spares and info I went to a Nissan 1500 motor through the LADA transmission which could not handle tha strain then onto the Nissan motor AND 5 speed gearbox through the LADA transfer box VERY successful but too much transmission noise so now am on NISSAN motor/gearbox straight to the LADA diff also successful but not so much fun If any body out there knows how to quieten the transfer box down PLEASE let me know as I still have all the bits I made to refit it We are leaving for Lesotho on the 3rd of Oct for a week. Katse Dam on to Sani then home so hopefully I will have loads of info to remedy my problem on my return. Thanks for an amazing forum where we can express our views Regards to all Bill

Hi Bill
Welcome to the forum. Hope all the members here will be able to assist you with all of your queries. Spares are available without breaking the bank. The transfer case if correctly set up should not make much noise. It certainly should not detract from pleasurable driving.

Hi Bill
If you are talking about transmission whine you should try a thicker oil like 85W140. It does make a difference. Any other excessive noise may well be a bigger problem, like warn bearings and gears.

Hi Bill
Welcome to the Forum !
I often wonder about the Nissan engines, so more information will be very welcome . I think the next info should be very interesting:
1. Which Nissan engine (specific model) and Nissan 5 speed gearbox have been installed ? 2. Engine performance and fuel consumption in general ? 3. Is the total length of the Nissan engine + Nissan 5 speed gearbox more or less the same as the Lada engine and gearbox ?
If possible, please forward some pics of your modification to the forum - there is always a possibility that someone else might be interested in a similar mod.
Regards
Danie P.S. Oh - please don't forget to forward some pics of the Lesotho trip !

Hi All, Thanks a ton for the response to my letter[OCT 23RD] To answer some of the queries I fitted an A15 Nissan motor with the Nissan 5 speed box It is about 75 mm longer than the Lada unit and was very easy to fit , Just some extender plates to the standard engine mountings I also had to move the transfer case back to suit ,had the prop shortened and I was away. Also had to change the radiator inlet and outlet around to accommodate the Nissan hoses It pulls very well ,sad to say better than the original . On our recent trip to Lesotho on the open road we averaged 8.6l/100 which I thought was quite good Off road it dropped down to 10.8l/100 which I still find acceptable As I said in my previous letter I'm not computer literate so at the moment I can't post any pix but I will soon. The good Lord blessed me with 10 fingers but only 2 seem to be able to type. As soon as one of my daughters visits I will see to it that I get some photos on the forum The trip to Lesotho was nothing short of fantastic the Lada in 2 wheel drive mode went amazingly well. We travelled with a Pajero 2004 model short wheel base and went every where it could go I must tell you guys the hardest part of the whole trip was getting off my fat backside and getting going. There's on holding us back now!! Next trip Namibia- May next year for 3 to 4 weeks[with transfer case back in] A problem I did pick up- was on the long uphill climbs with a tail wind was overheating [this is a definite problem]so a tornado type electric fan is the next thing to be fitted with a manual override .Well my 2 fingers are now exhausted so I will end off Till next time regards to all Bill
