Holy Cow, mind you had a similar experience. Turbo packed up on Landy in 2003, (NEVER LET ANYONE ELSE DRIVE YOUR BABY!!!!!) because idiot didn't remember to cool turbo after a days run on CannonBall Run Africa (we are the point scorers) woe is me. Anyway, so called Land Rover and they fetched vehicle. I was not there when they fetched it with a normal towing bakkie, not a flat bed for 4xx4 (umm wonder about how educated in Land Rover they actually are) anyway, gear box @#%*!!! So they call me to tell me, and then send me a quote, saying not their fault gearbox gave in (sorry whaaaatttttt!!!!) 40 or 60k, can't remember, had a heart attack. Screamed, yelled, swore so loud, no-one even looked my way for 2 days. I sat with that quote on my desk for 4 days, eventually was going to phone and say OK, do it, what else can I do, I'm clueless with gearboxes. BUT, they phone me and calmly advise me "OH your vehicle is ready for collection" all sweet and oily rubbish on the phone. I made it to their workshop in 10 minutes with serious attitude. No-one said go ahead, no-one said you weren't to blame. I think with my hair all over the place from open window doing 200km on highway I looked rabid, (and I did have my baseball bat swinging around rather threateningly around all their vehicles in workshop -TAKE NOTE ARI-it does exist, 3rd one now) I got my Landy back for free, new Turbo and all. So a bit of mad hatter behavior can work in your favour, and if you're right stick to your guns, also make sure you don't care how much of a spectacle you make of yourself. Whats right is right. Obviously I never went back. Even let the warranty and so on lapse. They would have tried to recover those costs somehow.
