I've never ever had a problem getting wheel nuts off... Because of my big guns! Last year on my honeymoon in the Drakesburg we got a flat while driving down the Oliviershoek pass in our Hyundai Atos. While tightening the last nut I broke the wheel spanner- sheared off just behind the socket. My young new wife was quite impressed...

What do you guys think about Alfa? I want to get myself a 147 in two years time. Not a selespeed! According to 99% of the world I will then have the two most unreliable cars in the world in my driveway. That will be my two dream cars.
I wonder if a Alfa engine will fit on a Lada box. Mmm...

Good morning Spikes
Just to answer your "knormoer" question at another thread - I think it can only be one of two things:
1. A mother in law in a bad mood.
2. The starter motor on a car.

Hi all
Is it just me having to login before I can view anything? If it is just me it's fine - but if this is the case for everyone then you can add me to the "knormoer" list.

Hi Charles.
The reason I do not like Alfa is :
firstly, they leak more oil then my Landy can dream of, and
secondly, there services and spare parts are realy heavy overprized. My brothers father in law drove a V6 Alfa, and a major service and timing belt cost him over R10k. To redo the two heads was R38k, more then I paid for the Landy. He sold the Alfa.
Regards.

Hi Hercules
I also noticed that I have to log in each time I want to visit the Forum.
I guess Kobus has made some changes to try and block spammers from the website. I have also noticed that the same changes have been made to another forum (not Lada related) which I visit regularly.
This changes will probably cause less "traffic" at the forum, but it could also have an increase on our membership numbers.
Anyone who are interested in our activities, will have to join as member.
I think our Management structure should discuss this issue - and if needed, Kobus could be contacted in this regards
Regards
Danie

Hi Hercules Almost all the Euro cars are very expensive to maintain - esp the French ones. I must say I like the shape of the Alfas too - but that is just the designer in me talking If your Landy is not leaking oil - then you are not using genuine parts ;D Regards Marius

Hi Marius
My Landy never leaked oil it was bone dry underneath. It was like a Lada LOOK AFTER IT. I also did not use genuine parts as the cost was beyond belief.

Hi Charles This goes back to my Apprentice days when I would say to my friend Barry "where is your Dad`s Alfa. The answer was always the same " in the Garage" It got to the stage I could not remember what the car looked like. Ronnie

We had a 156 2.5 v6. Fantastic car. That car didn't give us a days worth of trouble. I would love a 147 1.6 twin spark. The reason why cambelt change on the v6 is so expensive is because you replace the water pump aswell. The most expensive thing on a Alfa is the labour. A goof Alfa mechanics is few and far between.

Oops. Goof mechanics are very popular. GOOD mechanics are scarce. I hope I fall into the 2nd category.

Hi Charles
Good mechanics are always in demand, and do earn good salaries overseas .
My oldest son is a qualified Audi mechanic , and works in the United States.....within less than 18 months after he started working there, he was able to buy his own house. I don't think it would be possible locally.........

Hi Danie and Charles
It makes you wonder where the high price per hour that the garages charge goes to. It certainly does not go to the mechanics. Dare I say it goes toward the fancy receptions and COFFEE bars.

Hi Charles
Yes I do, as long as it is oils brake pads and nothing that needs the computer for. Fortunately we do not do large mileages so it is not too much of a problem. Put new tyres on yesterday as the previous owner had low profile tyres on of the wrong size and the spedo under read by 8 KPH. It is spot on with the GPS now.

Hi Charles I also read that. But the Lada is very acurate and is the peugoet with the correct size tyre. The peugeot was showing 112 at 120 which for me is too far out. The correct size has also cut the revs at a true 120 by 200 RPM. Ronnie

Hi Charles To be a good mechanic is as easy as learning and paying attention to what you are shown. Many apprentices only are looking for pay day. I learned a lot about car repairs when I was an apprentice in the early 60`s .The Company I served my time with had their own Mechanic and I worked with him on Saturdays at no pay to learn. In those days I was car mad. And have always been so. Especially cars from the late 50`s to the 70`s. In those days they had not learned about PLASTIC Ronnie

Hi Ronnie
I only worked with a mechanic for 3 months and then I was on my own. I dont have a qualified mechanic at work. We are only two guys. The other guy is 20 and unwilling to learn. So I stepped trying to teach him. He believes he knows enough. Almost everything I know I have taught myself or learned from a workshop manual.
