Hi Mike, The first Lada I ever saw was also one with a similar soft top. That was at the University of Pretoria more than twenty years ago, and it played a part in me buying a Niva many moons later. The soft top theme goes well with the Cape, I think. I think you must do the Lada fraternity in SA a big favour and post a picture of a really good looking girl in that Lada and post it on the forum! It will certainly push up the price of Ladas in SA Just think about it; there are only so many Nivas in SA and having such a cool vehicle earns many a brownie point with the other girls! Regards, Fanus

Hi Vincent
It all sounds like a great idea BUT I think we need to generate a better flow of female members. We need a really good looking male member to show what fun the outdoors can be and not just that though, to also promote fact that these vehicles are great for everyday use. And who can prove this more (at the moment) than a man.
I know this is off the subject BUT I would like to find out if there are any kind of Lada rally's as such here in SA.
Regards Maddy

Hi Maddy
The rally issue needs to be taken up with Ari and Darryn (Hint hint okes)
I would be prepared to pose, but know that I would be discouraging potential female members ;D. Balding, with a boep..... Not a pretty sight.
regards Vincent

Thanks for the thought Vincent. I was aiming more to the public eye as in younger, flat stomach (six pack if possible) and yes, he must have hair. Most women tend to go for that, but seriously though, it would be nice to get other women involved as well. A lot of women let the men do their talking where 4x4 is concerned and it would be nice to have the wives, GFs etc all involved and be a part of this site. I am sure the females out there also drive occassionally Cheers Maddy

Marius, Now that is what I meant! I really had to stare at the Niva in the background to remind me self that A Niva is a real workhorse . Come to think about it' I saw no snow chains of any sort, but I will never forget the Niva in the background. No, woman really do it for a Niva. Finish en klaar! Maddy, you are completely wrong about men advertising Nivas rather than woman (except maybe to a few moffies). The reason is very simple; woman are rational beings (or can read advertisements). Men are nothing like that; they reason with their harts or egos. Therefore if you show a Niva with a good looking man next to it or in it a man will simply think it is boring; another man can not even closely do with any car what he himself can do with any car. It is of course completely the opposite if there is a good looking woman with the Niva. The man will now think about the woman and a split second later what he can do with or together with the woman. being a one track minded being, the man will now think; Ok, she like the Niva, so if I get a Niva she will go with me! How will woman look at an advertisement if there is a woman with a Niva? Obviously she will think; another boring advertisement of a car with a woman. The woman will now, a split second later wonder what fashionable items are around, and notice this Uber cool vehicle in the background. Case won, one more Niva sold. ;D Conclusion: woman with car sell cars to men and woman. Good looking men with car sells to woman only. On a more practical note (not that thinking about woman and Nivas at the same time is not practical, it indeed is) woman are very good Niva drivers off road; I am saying it based on experience. I will share a secret with you: My wife can reverse much faster (= better) up a twisty obstacle during the many competitions I took part in in the Niva than I could dream to do. The reason is simple (except that she is a much better driver than I will ever be): a Niva is nimble and you can see where you are going. Or in the boring ass-creeper-for-a living language of a motoring journalist that tries to be poetic: you know exactly where the four corners of the car is when maneuvering and the Niva is short, light, has high ground clearance and very short overhangs. Voila - just what woman need, a vehicle you can trust and enjoy. Just imagine a Sandton smoothy reversing up an incline at speed with a block of flats, tche, I mean a Landcruise Prado or an up and down adjustable malema Range Finder,. I for one will feel deep pity for her husband and bank manager, because power steering or not, she is going to either crash it or scratch it. Where's the fun! I have a connection (ok family) that has a 4 x 4 training course for 4 x 4's here in Gauteng and will shortly (try? I hope not) arrange a Niva rally for LOCSA where woman will be more than welcome. Maddy, I was just pulling your leg about men advertising Niva's ;D Regards, Fanus

It's good Charles, but I'm not so happy about the lights... it seems to take away that old school look that the Niva so happily delivers.

Just remember to not let any polish of shampoo with wax in it near it. Otherwise it will start to shine. Only use Sunlight liquid. That is Nato green.

Dimitri do you have more pictures of a link to a build thread? Also do you have more details of the 4AGE conversion that you posted in the other thread?

Demtris,
That is one awesome looking Niva. It looks like a monster truck when compared to the Suzuki.

Mike that will truely be one of a kind. Charles CHARLES I have decided that is what i am going to do, just need to figure out how and what and how the hell i am going to get the front to look like that. Will have to find a scrap baby range rover or freelander also those windows look tricky the bonnet easy enough and then there is the roof and the railings. mirrors easy enough.......mmmm planning time. as i want it ready by march next year as i want to go on a trip through namibia into angola or for the fun of it do the border of Lesotho/Transkei which is about 9-11 days........what to do and where to start?

I prefer the look of the older style 4x4's. I like the square edges, the most new vehicle are too "round" to my liking... A 4x4 should look like a 4x4, not a soccer mom car with a lift and bigger wheels. But that could just be me. Regards Koos

You have hit the nail on the head. Perhaps that is why I love Defenders. Oops I should not have said that.
