What was the problem butasteve why did the mounting break? or was it just that the jerk of the other vehicle snapped something? Ari

Looks like the car was hooked up on the right hand side of the bumper/bullbar which at best would have dragged the white one further into the mud. The bullbar mountings were not up to the job though.

The hoops on the bumper attachment points aren't strong enough to be used on their own. You need to use a lanyard to spread the load between the two hoops at a minimum, but ideally the car needs proper recovery points fitted.

Amazing how often it seems that people don't realise that a standard Niva is not equipped for off-road recovery. The recovery points have to be made specifically for the job. Having said that, applies to other makes as well! Regards, John

Hi Everyone Some more info on the Recovery. Pieter in the Green Lada pulled the guy (He is new to the Group) in the White Lada out of the mud to the other side of the mud pool - away from where I was standing to firmer ground. Paul with the white Lada drove back through the mud to our side without much trouble. The guy in the White Lada decided to give it another go and drove back to our side. He got stuck at the same spot. Pieter and Paul tried to pull him out with Two Ladas which failed. They could not start the white Lada - That's when they decided to jerk it. The welding was not that good. In the end Pieter tied the rope around the Front Axle and pulled him out. They managed to start the Lada when it was out of the mud and everthing was dried. All the Lada's involved were fitted with 215 Tyres - Different Brands though. I'm in the process to have the shock on our Lada fixed. Might be ready for a Trip in the Sand this weekend. Do not like the Mud Trap...
