Thought I'd better put up some pics of a little beast I owned until a short time ago. I originally aquired it in a trade for a suzuki LJ50, (which I miss terribly BTW) Went on to build it into an offroad competition car. I now have a lada wot aint quite straight. I'd just sold it, and the new owner had been a little careless about parking. So it rolled backwards into the wall of a workshop. Now he don't want it no more, and the local wrecker won't give him anything for it, so he offered it back to me. How could I refuse? So ... watcha think? Bobbed wagon, or short ass ute/pickup thing, or buggy? rear quarter has been pushed forward. at first we couldn't open the door, and once we did get it open (size10) it wouldn't close but some gentle persuasion with a FBH and a block of wood sorted that. Not a real good pic of the floor, but the corner is buckled and the bumper mount tube thingy has been punched through the sub chassis rail. Actually quite messy under there. Save some time (me being a lazy sumbitch) I'll copy straight over from my Aussie forum.

To fit 33" tyres, first cut out lots of metal and rust here here and here like so, and ... voila! they fit!

Top link mount now 1 inch forward of end of arm. Spring pads plus spacer Front mounts for lower links There's that inch again links connected back up in new locations, and Voila` (french for so there) spring pads are hard up into the bumpstops, supporting weight of car plus 60kg extra weights. (springs out) Please excuse daggy welds and light material, (only used 3mm flat). Didn't bother to clean the steel proper like, just a quick brush and zap it together grease'n'all. Only has to hold for about an hour, and it should give me an idea as to how well it works, if at all. If it's all good, I can make some real ones 8)

After the first Comp meeting, I found that the 33s were too big.
Rubbed BADLY on jumps, so I put the 205r16s back on. Thus began the suspension lift project.
Was never very successful, as I did not have a chance to refine the thing. Family always managed to come up with something every time there was a comp sheduled. Over a five year period I got to run it 3 times. So in the end I gave up, bowed to pressure and got rid of it.

I remain hopeful that SWMBO will permit me another one someday, so I still have a set of 4.3 diffs, and a crawler transfer gear set, which I'll fit into a transfer case I have here ready for a rebuild.

Don't know about handling yet. Still got the top ball joint spacers to do, atm they just a few lengths of 1/2 inch square tube. Gotta replace a top ball joint yet, so I'll do the spacers properly when I round up a bj. Uni joints look ok, but I'll give'em a bit of a shave anyway coz they are close.
