Thanks, found a universal bosch at Diesel Electric. R780 Hi Glad you came right! Please supply more detail such as the Bosch number if you still have it and if any modification was required IE new plug fitted to NIVA wiring or such Remember to uncouple the the battery for at least 30 minutes to reset the Engine Management circuit. Before you connect the battery. step on the brake pedal to fully get rid of any residual electricity. This will cause the controller to "relearn: all parameters from zero Spikes

Replaced the sensor (what a mission), but Im still getting code 13 My fuel consumption is terrible at the moment. Im now going to build an ALDL reader from these instructions www.ladaniva.co.uk/lada/niva_tbi.pdf and then will hopefully be able to see exactly what the ecu is reading. Bought all the components to make the interface today.

Hi Steve
I take it you have checked the MAP and purge hoses for rotten bits and that they are connected to the correct pipes on the TBI body?
Is the CAT still in place and in good condition?
Lastly the software was written for Win98 if I remember correctly
Regards

All hoses seem fine. CAT is gone tho.
Took readings with a multimeter on the Oxygen sensor today after the check engine light came on after driving for a bit. I got fluctuating voltage measured directly off the sensor (unplugged from ecu connection). voltage varied between 0.1 and 0.8. When the car idles it fluctuates around 0.8 (low in oxygen, rich mix) and when I rev to 3000rpm it goes down to 0.1 (high in oxygen, lean mix).
I then plugged in the oxygen sensor to the ecu connection and took readings where the wires enter the ecu. I got the same results. The voltage is def not at a steady state (between 0.35-0.55) and so I shouldnt be getting code 13 and open loop. No idea why the ecu is not reading this sensor.
Will have to make a go at getting this interface together to see what the ecu is up to.

I think I have fixed the problem. So far no check engine light after two 10km trips. I added an additional ground to D7 on the ecu, and now it seems the ecu is reading the sensor properly. I stripped a bit of the wire that leads into D7 and attached an additional wire from this wire to the car chassis. Seems the ground coming from the ECU is not too good. Got this tip from the lada USA forum. Holding thumbs that that sorts the problem out. I also got a mate of mine to construct the interface for the aldl reader, so we got that done this evening. Now to get the software going, then I can see into the ladas mind..

Thanks. Yes the tps moves with the throttle. Just tested it idling in the driveway at the moment. Will try it on the road today.
The end of the grey wire is connected to a serial com port connector that goes to the laptop. Brown (mode select), Brown/white (vehicle ground), and orange/white(8192 baud aldl data) go to the diagnostic connector next to the ecu (12pin plug). The orange wire is not used and is for 160 baud aldl data. Ive modified it a bit now so it gets power from the car and not the laptop (through the serial port, green and red wires)

I just get a 404 error on the link Pictures of the connection to the OBD1 connector will be great. Regards Spikes

Hi Spikes I got the definition from here www.ladaniva.co.uk/ about half way down the page there is a link. He says the definition is a work in progress, but I cant find any updated versions on it so far. Have you got the evaluation version of efi live v4? Ill pm you some info on this if you like. Will take and post some pics this evening. Good luck with the interface! Steve

Hi Steve Thanks. I don't know of any update from GadgetBoy. But the efi V4 stuff seems to work for you. I will PM you my e-mail address as that will be easier to do attachments etc I have a couple of Radio techs who owe me favours so the interface should not be a problem Spikes

Nice one Spikes. Ive installed efilive evaluation on windows xp and 7, and it works fine. You will need to find a laptop with a serial port tho. Im going to try a serial to usb converter and see if that works. Also want to get a proper 12 Pin plug to connect to the diagnostics connector, instead of having bare wires to deal with. Seems I can get one off Ebay for quite cheap. Ari I would be happy to make a couple up and sell them if there are people interested. Its quite a bit of fun watching the readouts of the sensors etc. Can also log the data to play back later. Makes the lada feel like an F1 car Steve
