Hi everyone I have been a member of this forum for a little while now, I joined because I was very keen on buying one, I LOVE small 4x4's! The only thing stopping me is that I know there are no agents (in CT anyway) and Im just worried that if something goes wrong that I will be left carless for a long time... I'd really appreciate your feedback on the Lada's general reliability and maintenance costs per year if possible? How much does a major service usually cost etc... Keep in mind I'm based in Cape Town, I know of 2 Lada specialists here Oh and I also don't go offroad much, only about once or twice a year and its not too hectic, just a rugged downhill to get to a family getaway on the coast. I currently have a 2004 citi golf which hasn't given me problems in the 6 years that I've owned it. Your help is greatly appreciated, hopefully I will be able to own one soon! Regards Craig.

Hi Craig You can get most of your spares locally but these guys tend to be expensive therefor if you are willing to pay the premium you won't have to wait that long for spares to arrive. The alternative is to order directly from overseas at very competitive prices and the waiting period is not that long. Speed post can be as quick as 4-5 days tops. Have a look here for suppliers >> www.locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sparep&action=display&thread=652Reliability depends entirely on what you start with. If you buy a cheap neglected car you will have problems, but if you buy a well looked after car that was serviced properly the car can be VERY reliable - esp the way in which you intend to use the car. Reliability also depends entirely on the willingness of the owner to do regular DIY maintenance. Basic service parts are freely available at Midas, Autozone etc and if you service the car yourself AND use good quality lube a service would cost you around R600 which is a bargain. You only have to service the car once a year or every 10 000kms - so running cost is VERY low. Hopefully this has answered some of your questions but feel free to fire away. Marius
