Hi Pizzo
If you have an electric pump fitted under the bonnet you have a very good chance of vapor lock. If you fit an electric pump it should not be under the bonnet.

Thank you so much Ronnie!
That makes sense because the problem come out just when the engine is very hot! I'll try to move the pump in a cooler place!
Thanks again and i'll let you know!
Kind regards Pizzo

Hi Pizzo
If the pump is in the engine compartment you can have problems. It needs to be mounted in the back. I tried mounting the pump behind the splash plate in the front wing and still had problems. You could try wrapping the pump with a cold wet cloth when you have problems and see if the pump works then. This would prove wither the pump is at fault or not.

Also get a proper Facet pump. Not one of these cheap chinese ones.

Hi Glenn
if you have an electric petrol pump and experience petrol percolation it usually cures the problem if you move the pump to the back beside the petrol tank.

By the tank would be best but, having said that, my electric pump on the 1.6 was mounted in the engine bay, but as far away from the engine as possible. It ran fine for five years before I sold the Niva. Regards,

Hi John
The problem with the pump under the bonnet in South Africa is the high ambient temperature. I have seen it as high as 50deg c, and 30 to 40 is common.

Whilst I understand the temp., where I mounted it was under the battery platform, in clear air, so I doubt the temp there would have reached anywhere near that. As I said, it worked fine for quite a few years, regardless of weather and, although it doesn't get to 50C over here, 35deg is not uncommon. Also bear in mind the thrashing that motor got off-road! Regards, John
