Danie,When we moved to Pennington we tried Ushaka for a flag R400. We then tried The Pavilion shopping centre and got one there in one of the kiosks in the walkways for R110. The quality is a bit thin ,but even with a lot of wind they will last at least 2 years.

Ari, I dont know why your photos came out so small. The last one is on the ferry between Botswana and Zambia across the Zambezi at Kazungula. The rest are mostly in Savute in Botswana.

Ronnie, those Botswana / Zambia pics are really great ! Thanks for sharing ...........really nice to see pics of a Lada, taken at that part of Africa !
I spent one year of my life in the Caprivi / Kavango / Ovamboland area - during my Army days............ still dreaming of going back there with my Lada , to view one of the most beautiful areas in the world !
I am quite convinced that it should be possible to forward larger images of those pics..........hopefully somebody out there will be able to give advice.
Regards
Danie
PS. I will look for a flag at the Pavillion.

Ronnie, are the roof tents standard ( like the one on Ari's Lada) - or has it been specially made for Ladas ?

Dannie
Roof top tents are made in standard sizes. 1200mm wide is the smallest made, that is what was on Ari,s, and at the time that was the only size made.I had the same size on the landy, but changed to 1400mm when they became available. 2 people can manage in 1200 providing you are not too big. We are both small.I have just measured the lada and 1200 is the widest you can go. All tents are 1200 back to front, 2400 long when open so you could mount the tent to open to the side providing the roof rack has open sides. The weight varies depending on the make, but you can work on between 50 and 60 KG. As far as make is concerned, I prefer Echo as we have used it in gale force winds in Central Kalahari, and people in ground tents spent the night holding their tents down. Dont know current prices but imagine it will be round about R7000? They now make double size tents but this would not be much use on a NIVA. Hope this helps.

Ronnie

Thanks for the info Ronnie.
I must say I like the roof tents, but R7000 sounds a bit steep...........for the time being I will have to stick to my ground tent.

Danie When you are in the unfenced camp sites in Botswana it is better to be" ON TOP" when the Lions are around your Lada in the middle of the night. I agree the tents are not worth the price, but what is?

Mike ilike your comment, i will wait for your comment on this one . We woke up one night to noises in the tree above the roof top tent.We found an elephant grazing on our tree. Mind you there is less chance being stood on when you are on top.

Dannie.
We have seen plenty in our travels. But all memories are GOOD.I would advise all who can to try it. We did all our trips alone, just be sensible and prepared. There is no one to help you very often in the bush. You cant walk out and you are far from help and WATER.
Regards
Ronnie.

Hi Ronnie Realy a nice little mod - have you posted any decent pics of how you DIY'd the snorkle mod? With all the fording I have to do lately I am seriously considering it myself. Hectic finish on that paint job!

Hi Marius
On page 2 of technical you will find Snorkels. Unfortunately the pics are small. If you need more I will try to re post. The paint job was done by Centurion Lada. A good job. ;D
