Ok finally made up my mind (i think). Going to keep my standard engine gbox and 4x4 but not keeping it standard. Things i will do. High comp pistons, mulit point intake, flowed head, donalds bakkie filter, branches and 50mm exhaust, maybe a slightly hotter camshaft, new gearbox, new bearings for every turning thing, standard wheels, and silver paint job. Pics comming soon. Ruan

I do not have time for a conversion. Its a hell of a job. And it will cost upwards of 20k and the value of the can will drop after all that work.

Sounds great Ruan. I am also planning on doing the donaldson filter mod sometime. Just need to find the right housing. A 2l or 2.4l Nissan has a very nice one. The older hardbody's one was bigger than the one in the NP300. A ZD30 or TD27 will also work nice.

To get the comp up you can skim the block a few mill.

I honestly do not know. Somewhere I read that they skim the block to get the comp up. Send Jan (LadaNiva Belguim) a mail. I think he also mentioned that mod somewhere.

Thanks. The niva has almost got enough power with injection fitted. Just needs a bit of rev range and hp to pass slow moving tazzes and corollas.

If you Skim the block you might have to cut the top off the pistons as they will stick out, like mine did. I did have more power after though due to the lighter pistons.

Charles yes i think so. Ari im going to try and find local pistons and machine them if i have to. Where can i find a old lada 1.7 piston? I want to have every thing before i strip my motor so wil need an old piston to use as a sample. Ruan

Ruan somewhere I read that there is a toyota piston that is similar. Ari's Niva had isuzu pistons in at some stage. Maybe ask Jan if he has a old one for you.

I think I saw info on this earlier in the year on the uk forum. If I remember correctly you should skim the block but not the head.
Maybe do a search on there?i

Sold the engine allready sorry ruan... If you can find out what bore mm and stroke dimension Autozone or a Alert spares(church street pretoria, theyre affordable and autozone buys it from them, so youll score a wee bit) I would recomend you to a suitable candidate out of anoter car....many vechiles pistons are interchangeable, and you might even find a higher comp piston out of another car(feul injected and non turbo high revving engines such as the vtec, rsi,or even a standard sr20 engine, turbo engines have low comps as to increase durability and limit knock or ping issues) so no skimming would be needed...(get the dimensions and stroke and work from there! Go for a good quality piston since OEM is expensive, try a trusted aftermarket name such as kolbenco or other quality brand along with good mains and big ends...you pay peanuts you get monkeys!DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON ENGINE INTERNALS! I will definitley go with a higher comp piston than skimming, just make sure your dome wil get sufficient valve clearance...take this from a guy whose been through high horsepower builds... Once youve machined theres no going back.....

When it comes to bearings there is only one brand. ACL. Charles Dear Sir I must admit...I very much aprove your way of thinking... Like I said if its worth doing its worth over doing.... Wiseco/Arias pistons Carillo/Eagle rods ARP studs ACL bearings COmetic head gasket But in my dear ruans case he could buy another niva for the money that would cost thats why I reffered to aftermarket parts... Here is some eye candy that went into my turbo build, thats why I know the price tag on these builds Attachments:
