I have been running machined down nylocks on the front for a while now with no problems, I painted a stripe across them to verify they werent turning and all has been fine. I had nothing but trouble with the standard nuts.

That looks exactly like the marine grease we get here. Will try and find the specs of it sometime.

Charles, i heated it up in the oven to 40°C. The misses was very happy about that ;D It started to get a bit thinner, but was still very sticky. Specs say that it can have peaks till 220°C. Let me put it this way: when you get it on your hands, you almost can't wipe it of with a cloth, you just wipe it out

That sounds good. I was just asking because that means that it should stay in the cv even if the boot gets torn.

Stripey belongs to a new lada owner. Doing a minor service on her (Stripey) and replacing both inner CV boots.
I still have to get to the owner (Elsa) to the forum and FB group, she is on the BB group.

Nope sorry but you need to remove the whole shaft, there is a whole procedure somewhere in this thread which I wrote last year.

Ari, it's possible to remove the outer joint without taking the drive shaft out as long as the big circlips is still in the inner joint. I must admid that i take the shaft out for easy working

no secret: remove the hub so the outer joint is free. Remove the boot and yank the joint with a 500 g copper hammer. With any luck it fals right of. But again: usualy i remove the entire shaft without the inner joint. i remove the wire clip and boot and pull the inner joint apart so you don't have to drain the diff oil.

some time ago i replaced my inner cv's with tripple bearing cv's. I kept destroynig the stock 6 ball cv's because my Niva has a +10 cm lift and they could not handle that stress. I promised a follow up, so here it is: The old stock system with inner and outer cage and 6 bearing balls: the new system with 3 bearings with needles: the grease i use: Kroon Oil NF After a long search and a lot of testing i came to the conclusion that the cv boots from Pavel are the best. Because of the suspensoin lift the axles make a sharp corner and that kept destroying the boots in a matter of days. The boots from pavel seem to be up to the job. The cv joints themselves are now 4000 km on my Niva and they dont' make any noise. Remark: on the pictures you can see that i use an inner cv boot on the new cv. That one tore after the first off road trip. I now use an outer cv boot on the inner cv. No more problems Conclusion: i'm very happy with this setup! I got the cv's from neil from the UK forum. remark: for testing purposes i used one tripple bearing and one stock 6 balls bearing (both on the diff side). The 6 balls bearing cv starts to make a little rattling noise now. This one was not new, but still in perfect MINT condition. I come to the conclusion that with a +10 cm suspension lift the stock cv's are not up to the job.
