Hi all, I thought I would share a couple of pics of my car: Its worse than taking your pet to the vet. Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a Lada like a trip to the roadworthy centre. Here she is waiting to be tested for the fourth and final time: A tasteful camo respray to differentiate her from the other Woolworth's shopping trolleys that sport 4x4 badges: It was asked recently how much could be fitted into the boot of a Niva. The answer to that is a hell of a lot of camping kit: Lastly a few shots from when I first took her off-road. You will notice that thanks to my lack of experience I managed to run out of articulation on the back wheels ! Please note that I have since replaced the balding tyre's and have learned to lower the pressure before venturing off-road. Coincidentally I haven't got stuck since :

Hi Conrad Very nice indeed!! Hopefully your better-half will overcome her aversion to wading water crossings, so that you can have a go at that stream at Killarney! Consider fitting the original hub-dust caps. They keep water an dust out of the hubs Spikes

I love getting prizes from eBay! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality given that it only cost about R40. I was expecting it to be plastic but it is entirely metal and quite heavy.

Hi Conrad
Very nice. I like it when members do little mods like the parcel shelf.

I can't remember who was asking, but someone wanted to know what could be used to replace the plastic trim used on the gutters. This is the rubber beading I bought today, R200 for 6m from a autoglass store: I'm hoping that since its rubber it won't be broken by the roofracks.

Time for a few more updates: First up is a spring clamp to stop the rear springs from climbing out their perch at full articulation. It was probably happening because I'm a bad driver off road but either way its fixed now: Then I put some mesh over the fresh air intake. Im hoping that it stops the leaves getting in:

Great mods, how did you modify the spare wheel mount toe fit the wheel hollow side up?

Spikes Ronnie posted a mod to that aswell some time ago. You have to cut the front of the mount on both sides. Will be doing mine aswell sometime.

Yip I was hoping Conrad had a different version?
I don't want to make irreversible mods if I can help it. Won't be driving the NIVA forever

I didn't even know there was a mod to make the spare wheel fit upside down to be honest. I just put the wheel in like that and it fitted? Maybe its been changed in the past?

Very nice mods Conrad. The spring clamp is a very good and easy mod, (I have made it in mine) which solves the problem at full articulation when the shock absorber is longer.

Hi Conrad
I had to trim the part where the hold down bolt for the spare wheel screws into. I think with the manufacturing tolerances this will not always be required.

Its time for a small update. I finally got round to mounting the high lift jack and fire extinguisher: And just a photo of a typical South African carport
