hi danie the lift on your lada sounds great but standard shocks won't handle the movement travel for to long ...thats what a chap from belgium told me he tried some thing similar. but sounds interesting look forward to the mod. i will be starting in the week or next week hopefully with skid plate mods chat later

Some pics of the bottom "bolt on" mountings - I have decided to make mountings for my spare coil plates - will be painted and installed in my Lada. I have also drilled a few water drain holes in the plates. This pic shows the bottom coil plate, before the old brackets have been removed with an angle grinder This pic shows one of the new "bolt on"mountings (on the left), and the old brackets on the right. The new brackets will be bolted on the bottom plates, by using slightly longer bolts - which holds the bottom "whisbones" as well. The old shockabsorber brackets can be seen on the right. One of the water drain holes can be seen at the bottom (right) of the new mounting. Danie

Hi Mike / Ari Mike, if there is any difference in shockabsorber travel with a "plate lift mod", my intention is to lift the bracket with spacers as well - hopefully that would save me the costs of buying new shock absorbers : This pic shows one of the brackets on top of two spacers, just to illustrate what I mean. (I've machined these spacers as part of my lift kit - the short ones on the outside will not be used ) I will send pics of my complete lift kit as soon as everything is ready. Regards Danie

Hi Danie
Out of what did you make those mountings? Square tubbing?

Hi Charles
I have used two pieces of mild steel Angle and Flat Bar, and welded them together to make up the brackets - I can supply dimensions if you are interested.
I've used 25 mm Shafting to make the spacers.

Hi Charles There is a PDF floating around with Dakar mods - I'm sure Ari can help you with it. The easy way to do the bottom one is to reinforce it with some welding at the bottom of the old bracket. I must admit Danie's brackets looks very pro Regards Marius

I plan to beef up these mounts too, though I'm far from lifting my Lada. Soon I want to respray the body and recoat the chassis with chassisblack, I'll do the dakar kit before I do that.

Ahh...this is what I was looking for. Is there anybody in the Johannesburg area can help me to fix the right hand side shock absorber bracket thing ...top one, not the bottom (have not even checked that for however)...will pay for the repair, sounds like a bracket needs to be manufactured. Cool forum.
Thanks Len

Hi Len
Welcome to the forum. I think the likes of Hercules in Benoni will be able to help you with this. I am sure he will contact you when he reads your post. There are so many posts on a daily basis that it is easy to miss one. If he does not respond, send him a PM.

Hi Len
I am sure that Hercules will sort you on this one. I had the same problem a couple of months ago and any recommended engineering shop in your area would be able to do this mod for you.

Here is a pic of what mine looks like - they used 5mm steel but 2mm should also do the job.
