I am playing with the idea of developing a Smartphone application for LOCSA. As to what it will do, I have no idea, so I am open to any and all suggestions. Before I go ahead and start developing anything I would have to know what platform to develop it for, thus I am trying to see what OS to develop for. Naturally I would prefer to develop for Android as that is what I use. Please give me ideas as to what you would like an application to do.

Manuals. Access to the manuals on a phone while the LED torch is on (so that if you're working in the dark you can see the manual and what you're doing). Upload a photograph taken on the the spot to the forum would be flippen great. A live chat function?
Thanks man!

Darryn, some great ideas, lets see what other people come up with and then decide what I am going to do.
As much as I hate Blackberry's, based on the poll results so far I have started downloading the Blackberry SDK.

Ari bump is just to give the thread a kick again to get some life into it. As you can see it worked.

To bump a thread on an Internet forum is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile. This will typically return it to the top of the list of active threads. It has been suggested that "bump" is an acronym of "bring up my post", however this is almost certainly a backronym and the usage is entirely consistent with the verb "bump" which means "to knock to a new position". It can also be used in personal messages (PMs) or instant messages (IMs) on the Web, to return an older message to the top of the list.

Sorry for bumping it, but I hoping to get some more input as I plan to have a look at doing some development tomorrow, thankfully, I can develop for Android and port the app to Blackberry rather easily. The only issue is likely to be iPhone ...

i think this is a great idea, just a thought on what to put on it.... maybe some sort of contact to a service or "help desk" of the ppl in the know such as suppliers of spares or machinics, for those times when away from the office or home and need some info quick to resolve a problem that has croped up! lol... also like it was said up in the posts before, an option of uploading pics and chats to the web site would be great! maybe also a map of 4x4 trials and trianing centers in south africa, for those adventures type...lol... sorry i was just brian storming...now my head hurts...tim for a smok and coffee break...lol regards, shaune

Hmmm, just had a thought, following on from what Shaun said, maybe I could do some sort of integration to the Waze app and then we could track each other ... You can view Waze at www.waze.com

Hi Ihar, considering Blackberry is the fastest growing platform, and already represents 52%+, I reckon the platform is not a difficult choice. How about 1. a quick link to service & tune-up info ? 2. a quick link to known parts interchanges (for when you're shopping for spares) ?

Sorry I should of reported that I gave up on this project when I had connectivity issues to proboards. Probably add a result of their own ios and Android apps.

if I go to proboards website via locsa, it shows I am subscribed to locsa and my username etc
If I then click logout and search via the proboards site for locsa, it says there is no such forum... very strange. seems that locsa is not listed on their directory?

What do you mean with retain? Keep them saved on the phone? It doesnt keep any images as far as I know, everything in the post itself has to be loaded (it might cache a few recent posts you viewed). What I meant by not loading graphics is everything that is not in the post such as the background, the framework into which the posts are displayed etc. It keeps that saved in the app
