Hi Jaco
I have not looked at the photos but my dash was not cracked, you would have thought the dog had been chewing it. In my opinion there would have been no way to repair it. what was left was very hard and brittle, you could simply have broken bits off. No doubt it sat in the sun for long periods. The normal way of fixing it with a piece of carpet edged and glued in place is to put it bluntly awful, and I could not wait to remove it.

Thanks Ronnie Guess we will have to make sure about the Fiat 128 screen in some other way then. I have seen a Fiat 128 standing at The Oaks(near Trichardtsdal on the way to The Downs) Will suss it out when I next go to Tzaneen and measure the screen if it is still in the car Regards Spikes

Hi Spikes
About a year ago I visited PG glass and asked for a price on the "Lada Niva" windscreen. If I remember correctly the price was around the R3000 mark.
It could well be that the Fiat 128 could be a match but we will have to make 100% sure if indeed it would be the case ;D

Hi Marius, The R3000-R3500 is fair I think. I would just like the get clarity for clarities' sake about the 128/NIVA fit regards Spikes

Hi Spikes
What I just did is in no way a 100% proof but by simply over imposing both windscreens from photos from similar angles - full frontal aspect - it would seem that the Fiat measures very closely at the top but near the bottom the windscreen on the Fiat it seems to flare slightly more outwardly. It could well be an optical illusion though?

My Lada also got a Fiat 128 windscreen in as per the garage where I bought it from. The windscreen were cracked and they had to replaced it for roadworthy. Apparently at that time there was no Lada windscreens in stock, only Fiat 128 windscreens. They also mentioned that there is a price difference between the two windscreens.

Hi Hercules
Thanks, that will save anyone trying to compare them. I cannot remember what a Fiat 128 dash looks like, but the screen being the same it should fit.

Ronnie Hi all Unless of course Hercules bought from the same agent that Freda bought I did the same comparison as Marius, to me it looked as if the height is a bit smaller for the Fiat screen and it flares more at the bottom than that of the Lada Anyway, I suppose we will find out when an active forum member has to replace the windscreen regards Spikes

Hi Charles Ugly yes but changeable yes. A nice pair of matched spedo and rev counter in the main pod and there is a long slot which looks as if it is suitable for 2" gauges. I don`t need heater controls as I have changed mine to recirculation, so the heater control section would do for the radio. You are then left with a large top area for your R50 fur Ronnie

Hi Ronnie.
Luckely not as I bought my Lada from a garage in Boksburg. I only found afterwards that there is a agent in Centurion.

Hi guys,
I striped a scraped FIAT 128 for some other purpose, not related to the Ladas and a lot of spares left, including windscreen. Can get it for free - because is different then the Niva one and I don't need it.
A genuine Niva windscreen I can organize for far below R3000.
The problem with the dashboards is bigger. When we received so called "the lost" delivery - these 100 cars in 1999, abandoned in Lithuania at the port, under the sun, rain, snow and salty wind, we were quite upset of their bad shape. Anyway, the body work we did it properly and replaced all chrome beadings (become dark brown) on the front and rear window.
But the dashboards were scary - all with bubbles. We can't sell such a cars as new. We can't order quick delivery by air of 100 dashboards from the factory in heavy wooden crates - it is very expensive and takes at least 1 month. We can't order them even by sea - it will take at least 6 months. We can't close the business for even a day with lot of employees. Stuck.
A company situated on Melbourne Road in Durban rescued us. They repaired all with some kind of hard silicone and polished them later making them as new (almost).
Currently a lot of Nivas are with bubbles and cracks on the dashboard and need repairs. Is any of Durban forum members wish to help? Just to check if this company still exist. The name was something like Bumper and Dashboard Rebuilders, on Melbourne road in city centre. They could be still there or moved to another place but still in business. My information is 11 years old and we were happy with their work.
It is much easier, cheaper and quicker way to fix it then to make new one from fiberglass or wood.
Rgds

Hi Ventz
I find it quite intriguing that the Fiat 128 windscreen does not fit when we have 2 different suppliers who indicated otherwise. Lada Centurion broke the one in mine and could not get a Niva one, but told me they had managed to get one for a Fiat 128. Hercules also had a supposed Fiat 128 fitted to his. Will need to put this down to another Urban Legend.

I assume Hercules will be able to respond I will also contact the major windscreen suppliers later this week - maybe they could just compare their listed part numbers. Danie

Hi all
Very interesting indeed! As far as Spikes and my own comparison goes I believe the difference in the two windscreens we picked up could well be an optical illusion as the Lada's screen is more upright than the Fiat 128 if you compare it from the sides.
PG Glass should be able to supply the exact dimensions on both these screens?
Regards Marius

Hi Marius & Danie 1. Hercules's comment was before Ventz's offer of the free screen = so we still do not have clarity on the fit 2. Hopefully PG glass or other supplier Danie wants to contact will be more helpful than PG Glass in Nelspruit. The lady's comment: " the part numbers are different, it cannot be the same size" regards Spikes

Hi Spikes
The windscreen in mine is marked as follows:=
FXJ manufacturer Chinese I think M848 ASI Dot 495 E1 SABS 43R001566
I assume the last no is the part number. It also has a shaded band across the top.

Hi all,
Today I had another close look on the windscreens with measuring tape. It's a big difference. FIAT 128 - 123.0 cm x 57.5 cm (in the middle) NIVA - 137.5 cm x 55.5 cm
But may be I have to specify that my FIAT 128 was a bakkie, not sedan; nevertheless I can't see any differences in the faces of bakkies and sedans.
And Spikes - thanks for the info about the dashboard rebuilders, but obviously we have to talk to them personally with the dashboard in hand. I approached all of them in my town and they rejected.

Hi Ventz
I also think the 128 bakkie and car windscreens are the same.
Ronnie, thanks for the numbers on the screen - hopefully the numbers could help to trace more screens at the glass dealers.
