With those Nankangs on the way I might need to do a touch up on mine. Let us know what paint you use.

Guys a tip when sanding the rims. Get a spyral wire brush that fit on the tip of the grinder. Do not get the brass one, get the steel one. Go for one as close to 40mm. The tips of the big ones spinns too fast and damages the metal. Using them to clean paint off is alot faster and easyer. If you put some paint stripper or even brake fluid on the paint the night before it is even easyer. The brake fluid helps alot to get the paint out of the joints. One like this. Charles Attachments:

Hi Darryn, Builder's Warehouse stock it. According to the paint guardian in the NSP shop all branches stock it. It comes in a wide variety of colours incl metallic and "hammer" look. 12 oz can @r90 used 2 cans for 4 coats on outside and 1 coat inside of the 4 rims regards Spikes

Hi Charles, Elbow grease in my case, but with the Rust-oleum you only need to take off loose old paint and roughen the present finish

I know. I just like to sand it clean and use a primer first and then paint it. But I must admit the last time I took this route was with my tappet cover and air cleaner housing. Lately also just using rustoleum. Much easyer.

Hi Spikes
Your freshly painted rims will be wearing Nankangs pretty soon. The Easter holidays delayed matters a bit but I can't wait to have thread on my rear tyres again ;D

The first batch of Nankangs arrived at our suppliers in Cape Town on Thursday. Bit of a hickup though as only 20 tyres of the 28 ordered arrived. Fortunately another batch of 20 is due to arrive over the next Month and everybody is smiling again What happened to the other 8 tyres is a mystery - so far. There is a chance that they could arrive with the next batch. There is some other news in the pipeline but I am waiting for final confirmation. I have said it before BUT WATCH THIS SPACE! ;D Regards Marius

Hi all
Any idea what the 15" rim size is? I've got 5.5 in the back of my mind. There is probably more than one size anyway - so let me know what you've got.
Also - more or less - how much do new tyres for the 15" rims cost (retail)?
Regards Marius

Hi Marius
I think the rim will be 7j. New tyres is about R1100. That is for 205r15 Firestone ATX. Planning on sourcing 15" tyres aswell?

Thanks Spikes Charles I am looking into it - but it will have to be worth it in terms of price. No point in me getting tyres at prices close to retail. A lot of people seem to have Khumos - any idea what these tyres retail for? Any other brands/prices? Marius

With regard to the 15" tyres - are they195-215/80R15? What other oversized tyres sizes would you guys prefer? Regards Marius

195 would be prefered. Or a 175 on the 15" rim.

I know about the Yokohama but only available in Europe/Russia - they were not interested in importing the tyre to SA. Bridgestone Blizzak (winter tyre) tested pretty good in the dry but they also would not import it . Marius

Hi Marius
The sidekick rims take a 195 x 100s x 15. Don`t know what the 100s stands for in relation to the sidewall. I have Khumo`s and they seem good enough.

Yes Ronnie those Khumos are pretty solid. Have you got any idea how much they retail for?
