Hi. Can anyone help me with a diagram for the vacuum tubes on the fuel injection system. I have one pipe going to a chip on the firewall, one going to big black cannister. The third one would probably be for a kind of vacuum advance because i have a deadspot upon acceleration. The manual on the locsa website only shows the carb model.

Hi Charles. I spoke to Hercules and he had a look at the diagram. Maybe I did not look in the right part of the manual. Anyway, he gave me the details and she is purring like a kitten now. The doofenschmirtses where I bought it from today had disconnected all the pipes!? One goes to the cat sensor, one goes to the crank case and one to the vacuum canister. Idles at 1000rpm and responds well to the throttle input. If you can post the diagram, it might help for future reference. Thank you anyway. Spencer

No I did not. I still have to learn my way around these catalogs. Where would I download it from?

Hi Spencer Its in the 3rd manual for the 1.7 on the home page. There is a supplement at the back that covers the 1.7i and diesel models(the differences from the std carb mod that was not covered in the main 1.7 manual) If you want pictures of a specific part or section of the actual engine bay and wiring, I will happily oblige. Regards Spikes

Thanks Spikes and Bobby.
I have sorted out the pipes, but it sometimes it idles above 1500 revs, and sometimes it goes back to normal the 1000 rpm. And it still has a serious flat spot when you accelerate.
At one stage, it idled high and I unplugged the throttle position senor, and it stabilized, but started going above 1500rpm when i plugged it back in. I would deduct thus that it might be on the blink.
Could that cause the flat spot as well? Or is it possible to adjust the timing on this? Odly enough, the "check engine" light comes on when it idles high and wont accelerate properly.
I checked the spark plugs and they are new, replaced the air and fuel filters. Had some voltage drops, but that was just the battery connections.
I'll check the manuals as well.
Thanks Spencer

Spent the afternoon and evening looking for more problems. When I took apart the throttle body, I found the idling valve has some marks on it. The sealing bed on the throttle looks like it is oval and the shape of the lines on the taper valve confirms it.
My good friend and sidekick, Polly, suggested that I find a punch of similar shape and lightly tap it to reshape the seat. The valve now leaks air which would account for the erratic idling and possibly the flat spot upon acceleration.
We checked the timing marks, suspecting that it might be out with one tooth on the chain, but found less than one tooth between marks. Could the chain have stretched and could that cause a problem?
Also the alternator light glows dimly when the engine is running, so that needs to be checked out as well.
Any advice would be appreciated. Spencer

Hi Spencer If the "check engine" lights blinks a couple of times when you click the ignition on without starting, you can try the troubleshooting guide in the Manual (Section 9 I think) where it gives you fault codes. I have yet to find a plug to fit the Lada ECU module. regards Spikes

Wow, thanx guys.
This little kalashnikov-on-wheels just gets more and more impressive. Just rushing out now, but I will check the diagnostics as soon as I get back.

Hi.
I ran the diagnostics as per 101 tips and got 3 error codes:
12 No spark pulses at CPU or else good system, no codes
22 Throttle pos sensor below .2 volt for 2 seconds while engine running
23 MAT sensor shows < -30 degrees C for 3 seconds after engine running 1 minute or coolant > 30C. Probably an open circuit.
I'll take the manifold air temp sensor and throttle position sensors out and see if I can find new ones tomorrow. According to Gadget Boy these are standard GM components. Only one way to find out...
Regards Spencer.

Oh, and another thing. Where can I find a fuel cap? Or what other vehicle uses the same cap?
Thanks Spencer

Hi Spikes
I've got it for so long that I can't remember where exactly I downloaded it from. Could have been from Baxter's site? The PDF's dated 2001.

Hi Marius, thanks for the pics. It really helps me get to grips with these systems. Yes, the last 2 diagrams show the sequential fuel injection.

It's a pleasure Spencer - hope you come right with the fuel cap. Mine is also not 100% - I just cut a piece of rubber to more or less the size and it works ok. Let me know if you can find an alternative cap that fits.

Morning Guys Find link below. This is more juice in one spot than you will find anywhere else. Turbo-nutters page. He has done an excellent job of putting together lots and lots of info, including what I've already sent and the entire technical spec on the TBI. HAPPY HUNTING ALL!!!!!!! To the question about the fuel cap and what will fit, I think in the past I have read that Hercules installed a Ford Granada pipe and cap which is a 100% fit. Advantage is the lockable cap. If I used your name in vane, Hercules, I apologize, and if the work is not yours, I apologize to the one whose work it is. www.ladaniva.co.uk/ Regards Des

Spencer Don't worry about the code 12. It normally does it 3 times as a initializing test. i.e. self test. If my memory serves me well. Check all rubber pipes, particularly the one between the tappit cover and TBI that goes to the MAP sensor. Better still, replace them. Cheap. See that you have no leaks in xhaust. Also be sure airfilter is good. Very important. Little bits of wrongs make a huge difference in the performance of these beauties. If all is well with these thing you will also improve fuel econ...... Des

Hi Spencer If you still have the original Lada air filter housing with pipes, make sure that the thermocouple flap on the intake side is opening fully. The one on mine was sticking a bit. After cleaning with Q20 its opening 100% now. Also do not blank off the opening that had (or may still have) a concertina pipe running to a shroud on the exhaust manifold. On cold start the thermocouple flap is closed and air is drawn (supposedly) from the heater shroud. Mine has no pipe to the heater shroud but when I blanked it off it led to poor starting. Regards Spikes
