I spend the whole day at Airlink Cargo to pick up a shipment. While I was there someone drove a new Left Hand Jeep in the Cargo Yard. I asked the Airlink agent how is that possible? He said if you get the right permit you can personally import a Left Hand drive vehicle But you got to have the right documents. I asked my releasing agent and he immediately gave me the name and email of a person at ITAC who will help me with a permit. Suddenly I'm very interested in a 5 door LH Lada Niva. Got to do some research and go on my knees before the bank manager.

Hi Christiaan
As far as I know you can`t import a left hand drive vehicle into SA. I can only assume the vehicle was destined for a neighboring country. The rules are slightly different for emigrants but even then there are conditions and it excludes LHD vehicles manufactured after 2000.

I have looked at the forms which you are required to fill in to import a new vehicle and there is no way you can import a LHD vehicle unless you are a diplomat and even then, you can never sell that vehicle in South Africa nor is it possible to obtain a RWC. If you are a resident of SA you also can`t register a vehicle in say Swaziland and keep it here on a permanent basis. Ronnie

Very interesting fred. If we get an order together for 500 (or was it 100) RHD Nivas, the factory will produce them, they still have the tooling for RHD. This would be awesome! Please tell me where your Nivas had been produced. Mine is made in Togliatti greets Jakob

www.facebook.com/LadaWorld?ref=stream** News from AutoVaz ** South Africa is negotiating with AutoVaz to start official LADA shops in South Africa. Possibilities, prices and terms are being discussed. Here at LADA World, we assume the South African government and professional LADA dealers also follow the latest LADA World News, so here is a free hint: AutoVaz has previously (many times) mentioned South Africa, as an important country they would like to enter.

I believe RSA got the last batch of RHD Nivas, some built a few years before the date on their VIN plates but still the newest RHDs out there!
