Hi Ronnie I must admit, this is absolutely disgusting ! On the old forum he did not hesitate to "blow his own whistle" - always trying to convince everyone that nobody other than himself knows how to work on a Lada ! It is just a pity that the new Consumer's Protection Act is not in place yet............. Regards Danie

Hi Ronnie That to my mind it is pure sabotage and a lousy attempt to steal money from unexpected clients - esp from a KNOW ALL LADA expert! Mind you most of the Nivas imported by CMH came into this country with dry intermediate shafts! I believe your Niva has no warranty - so I doubt it if he is going to replace it edit>> unless you are willing to pay a small fortune Regards Marius

Hi Ronnie.
Sorry to hear about all the faults on your rebuild. For the price you paid you will expect to have some piece of mind.
What concerning the type of work the agents doing, its is plain and simple disgusting. It is a shame that people do work in such a way and do not even feel guilty and no pride at all, and still stay in business.
Now it is going to cost you an arm and a leg to get your baby back on the road again - and it is all unnecessary.
Regards.
Hercules.

Hi All I want nothing from this agent. All I want is for no one else to be in the same situation. The " grease " is so hard you could put it in your pocket. I have re-greased the CV put the boot on and reinstalled it. Now I am waiting for suggestions on how to proceed with the bearings. . Regards Ronnie

Hi all,
Please do not let your wife, partner or friend talk you into the expensive rebuilds. I am sorry that I thought I would give Ronnie more pleasure by paying more and having all the dirty work done for him. A lesson for all including ourselves.
To all the Dad's out there have a Happy Fathers Day on Sunday.

Hi Ronnie
It would seem that you are quite lucky that there is no damage on the CV joint - great!
I think you should now systematically check for possible nasties on your Niva. One place I would look is on the master brake cylinder - there is a rubber boot that fits onto the body. Just undo those two nuts on the brake booster and check if it is there - if not I will send you one in the mail.
Regards Marius
PS - thanks Freda!

Hi Marius Thanks for the offer, I have had both master cylinders off to clean them out as the fluid was not clean when I got the Lada. I think the rubber was there, I will check when the T/C case is back in. I think what saved the C/V joint was the fact it runs in a straight line. In fact the gunk would make it run straight. I will show you 2 more photo`s which show how much like rubber the gunk is. Regards Ronnie

Hi Hercules When you read my post to Marius you will see it fortunately cost me time and some C/V joint grease. . If this had been a C/V joint on a drive shaft the story would have Had a different ending . Regards Ronnie

Hi Danie It is thanks to you mentioning the pilot bush that made me check the intermediate shaft . The least said about the dealer the better, as I DON`T really want to know that he exists. To all Lada owners you have been warned do all the work your self. Even if you think you can`t do the work it is a simple vehicle to learn on. Regards Ronnie

Hi Ronnie Thanks for not keeping quite about all the problems on your Lada.
Another owner recently told me : "In this area we rather shut up, (about poor standards) because we might have to go back to buy spare parts.........."
To my mind, keeping quite about any unethical business practice and poor standards will never solve any problems - on the other hand, we should not hesitate to report good service either...........

Danie

Hi Danie I have no intentions of shutting up. After all I have paid up and I did not get what I paid for. . I have also kept photos and any evidence that was possible to keep just in case. There is more than one supplier and if need be I will import what I need. Regards Ronnie

Hi Darryn Do all your own work, then you can only blame your self when things are wrong . As I said before a Lada is a simple vehicle, perfect to learn on. ;D. (and enjoy) Regards Ronnie

I agree with Ronnie, do all your work yourself and learn from the expierance as the Lada is a very simple vehicle to work on. After all you can then only blame yourself if something goes wrong.

Hi Ari
There is a lot of satisfaction in doing your own repairs and once you learn the basics you know when a garage is bull$%&ting you. Does this internet access mean less work more play?. ;D

Hi all Workshop in Nelspruit that gave me good service on the Lada was General Performance Clinic on the cornner of Paul Kruger and Andersons streets. George has previously worked on 1600 Ladas and now on my 1700i. He does not carry spares in stock but any bits that can not be sourced in NSP will normally be available the next working day. The shop's tel nos are: 013-7523482 or cell 082-5054660 regards Spikes

Hi Spikes Thanks for the info.
I have no doubt that there are many reputable mechanics countrywide, who are more than capable to work on Ladas. The sooner we hear about them, the better for all of us.

Hi Hercules
I must admit I am very disappointed at what I got for what I paid, Also the lack of interest shown by the agent when I paid a visit. My aim is to make sure no one else ends up in the same position.

Hi Marius RE SABS tow bars. This is something I forgot about I don't think i posted on this before. After Freda ordered the Lada she phoned to see if it had a tow bar and was told no. She asked for one to be fitted and was told R1900. She said OK. Long after I got the Lada I noticed the tow bar was not exactly in the centre and was very badly made and fitted. I stripped it out to cut it and re weld every thing straight. The first thing I see when I removed it was it has ALWAYS BEEN ON THIS LADA. I stripped out the carpet today to take a photo of where it is bolted inside the boot. You form your own opinion of when it was fitted . The next photo I have painted white so you can see an example of how straight it was made. Remember this is from a dealer who knows every thing To me this is not only bad service but is also dishonest. Regards Ronnie

Hi Spikes
I had endless trouble with that bottle - kept on cracking. I then replaced it with a very standard type from Midas years ago and it is still working just fine.
The original is too big and with the weight of the water it tends to crack. The one from Midas is much smaller. If I remember correctly I saw Ronnie also has one.

Hi Marius and Spikes Yes i have one and it works well. Last week one of the tiny balls in the jets disappeared. The only replacement I could get locally was the one with LED lights in. I simply opened them, removed the LED`S drilled new holes and now have 4 very effective jets. The new ones cover the original holes Ronnie

Hi Ronnie & Marius, Ventz has an original two motor bottle in stock. I prefer the large volume of water and intend making up a basket or cradle to hold the large bottle. Will use the exsisting brakect as the main support of the basket but the bottle will not hang on the bracket Regards
