Take it to Mike, 4x4 Doctor. I overhauled my starter today. Soldered it up. Also threw the lead due to cranking with a flat battery. It was not completely dead. I just soldered it up and made it nice and flat with a file.
Just cracked my solenoid when I refitted it.

Hi Tank – welcome to the Forum. When you shop around for a starter bear in mind that you should be able to get a brand new original model imported, including all costs, for just over R2000.00. Locally, they tend to cost a fortune and I would be very interested to hear what Mike charges. If you decide to import from Pavel I would request one of the lighter Russian models because the ones on his website are incredibly heavy and will cost you in postage and be more difficult to fit . ( I bought a K-Zate that only weighed 3kg) With regard to removing the starter, which you queried under another thread, when I had problems a friend of mine removed it for me in less than half an hour using instructions that I found on the Lada UK website which I quote below. He’s not a mechanic, just handy with cars like most of the guys on this forum. QUOTE: Compliments of 'pycoed' Lada UK ForumDisconnect battery then do everything else from underneath the car ( rachet, extension, socket plus uni joint). First disconnect cables & remove the alternator completely. Second undo the bottom bolt from the heat shield - you can leave the top two in place (the shield will help you to wangle the starter back in). Third remove electrical connections from starter & tie cables & alternator cables out of the way. Fourth remove the three starter bolts using extensions & socket from the space where the alternator was. Tap the starter free with a bar between the engine mount/steering link/suspension arm/exhaust(!) Fifth, holding (& this is the hard part!) the end of the starter in one hand "end on" so the front of the motor fits in your palm, pull the starter towards the front of the car. When your hand gets tired, you can let the weight rest loosely on the heat shield then try another waggle until it comes out through where the alternator was. The new starters are much smaller then the original & therefore are MUCH easier to refit UNQUOTE Hope this helps. NIKKI

Hi Tank
Just take a tip from an old fool :
Don't throw your hard earned money on 2nd hand Lada parts - in the longer term, it simply does not work.

Hi Danie
I agree with you! No use replacing old shit with old shit.
But a working 2nd hand part is better than a broken one.
