Thanks Hercules.
If you decide to build one I will give you the dimensions where to drill, and angle of bends. Also have a good wax rust inhibitor handy as you can spray through the holes nicely.

This pic shows an altenator mod - the altenator has been mounted on the opposite side, in a higher than normal position. The reason for this mod, is to keep the altenator above the water level during deep water crossings....... Danie

Hi Marius
The large flexible pipe to the air cleaner was added later. I bought it from Autostylin (branches in Durban and JHB). The only critical thing is the position to drill the hole in the wing.I have also altered the top recently.I see there is no picture of the top so will take one tomorrow and post it for you.
Regards
Ronnie

Hi Marius Here is a Picture of the top. It is not the same as the small pictures as I have changed it since then. The best paint to use is Black Matt Spray. Regards Ronnie

Hi Ronnie
What do you use at the top? I cant see clearly. I like where you take the snorkel into the body. Other ones I have seen goes thru the bonnet. I don't like all the bends that it has to make then. Did you cut the hole with a normak hole saw?

Hi Charles Yes the holes were drilled with a (I think) a 60mm hole saw. This hole is the only thing where you must be careful as once it is drilled--------that's it. The top is made from an end cap glued to the top of the pipe and 3 x 25mm holes drilled through the side with a hole saw. The cap is made from a gutter end cap ( to cut the flat top piece). A gutter down pipe spout. ( this is slightly bigger diameter than the down pipe) The top piece is glued inside the cut of spout to make the top hat piece, which has a self tapper through the centre to hold it on to the end cap. It is all then painted matt black spray paint which seems to be quite durable on the plastic. Trust this makes sense. Ronnie

Hi All
Any one building a snorkel do not use the large diameter hose I posted under this thread as the one on mine has already broken in 3 places. I have wrapped it in duct tape in the meantime. The pipe was supplied by Autostyle in Durban. It looks good quality but it is not.

Hi Charles
There are many ways to solve the problem but I liked the idea of having at least part of the pipe work large diameter. I originally had all the pipe work 2 inch and it seemed fine.

Nice easy snorkel. What about breathers for the diffs?

Hi Spencer
If you want to do high mounted diffs, gearbox, and transfer box breathers the existing ones can easily be converted to take a thin hose connection. The spring and valve can be removed by prising the cap off and then drill carefully to suit an electrical ferrel which can be pressed in with the assistance of a vice. I did experiment with one of them and it works fine though I went no further at the time. The gearbox needs to be dropped to do it, as you cannot get to it when in place. I can`t remember but I think the front diff is also awkward to get to. I think it was a 6mm ferrel I used.

Hi Spencer
A snorkel is probably one of the best mods you can do - the air is much cleaner than in the engine bay.
The breather mod is also a good idea if you are going to do a lot of deep water crossings.
Esp with all the rain I have to deal with a lot of water but so far I have had no water in the oil with the standard breathers.

Hi Marius and spencer
Unless you are doing water crossings where the water is over the level of the diff I don`t think you will have any problems. The cold water cools the hot diff and causes a suction as it cools and it tends to suck the water in.
