Hey guys
I'm in urgent need of a starter motor. Do you guys know of any after market or alternative starter motors that will work on a Niva 21213 model or anyone that might have a good working condition one?
Regards

Hi Jakes
As far as I know no compatible starter motors are available.
You could also have a look at the Junkmail, as well as Gumtree ads. Just be careful when you do buy second hand - once a Lada gets stripped, there is a fairly good chance that you might through your money at a piece of junk.
Nikki has imported a new starter from Russia for just more than R2000.00 - so you although you might be desperate for a starter at the moment, you could also consider importing a brand new starter.
You could obviously try Chris Swales or Jan Pretorius as well. Apparently Ventz is not in the country at the moment.

Hi Jakes My starter packed up a few months ago and I can confirm that there is no compatible starter available locally. As I wasn’t prepared to pay the exorbitant prices I was quoted locally (R7000.00 for a new one and R3 500.00 for reconditioned by one of the local suppliers ) I imported the genuine thing from Russia for just under R2000.00. N.B. This price included tax and import charges totally 34% as well as the rather hefty courier charges due to the weight of the component! Unfortunately, I don’t think the guy I used is operating at the moment but the prices are similar on the Lada Parts Russia site. www.ladaparts.ru. Delivery will probably take 3 to 4 weeks from Russia but you can also get a quote from the UK, which may be quicker, but will probably be more expensive. Email Neil@Lada.co.uk I would be very interested in hearing what you decide to do in the end and what it costs you. Good Luck! NIKKI

Thanks guys. I will take a look at international sites and contact Neil. I never thought that this would have become such a problem. Hopefully they can fix it in the meantime, while I get the starter imported.
Thanks for your help guys.

I think the complete starter motor is shot. I took some pic's today. Does anyone know what starter this could be? Would you know where I could get a new starter locally, at a decent price? Attachments:

Take it to a good autolec and have them take a look at it.

Hi Jakes
Hope this works - I've been trying for ages to respond to your query but I keep getting error messages which is happening a lot lately. I also think it's something to do with the photo I'm trying to send you.
Please pm me your email address and I'll respond to you via email.
Thanks a stack.

Hi Jakes From the photo it's difficult to say what type of starter it is but if it's the original Russian one it should have quite a few stamps and ‘hieroglyphics’ on it which may identify it as such. I understand there are two types and a photo of my old one is attached. The stamps on mine (shown on the 2nd photograph) identify it as a K-ZATE model which is what I replaced it with. Lack of stamps, or anything 'Russian looking' could indicate it maybe one of the two aftermarket ones that are no longer available. One was a Bosch but I can't recall what the other make was. From what I was told by Chris Swales Motors, one type can be repaired and the other can't. I think mine is the type that can't be repaired but I'm not 100% sure about this as I didn't go this route as my casing was cracked and they were so cheap to import. I doubt that you’ll be able to get a good price locally - and you only have 3 options at the moment as Ventz is away - but here is the link for the suppliers. locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa....read=652&page=1 With regard to the international suppliers, please note that Graf Korvet does not appear to be operating at the moment. Hope you come right. NIKKI

Hi Nikki / Jakes
If both faulty starters in your possession is from the same supplier / brand - maybe Jakes would be able to build up a complete, perfect starter by using the components which are not faulty from both starters ?

Hi guys.
I'm getting one imported from the UK, brand new. It works out a hell of a lot cheaper than doing it locally.
I'm slowly replacing this car piece by piece.

Hi Jakes
The UK is not the cheapest source for spares, but I consider it safer when sending money.

New starters are a bit smaller than the originals and seem to have heaps more torque than the old style ones, they spin the engine over faster and effortlessly and just over three hundred dollars here

Hi Jakes
It could be very helpful to to know what the total price on a starter from the UK is at the moment - shipment costs, and taxes included.
Many thanks.

The starter cost me 90 pounds, the shipment was the same price and customs and handling fees about R 800. The shipment I could have got for much less, but I had it express delivered (4 working days) because I was in urgent need of it. It worked out to just under R3000 for the lot and that was for a brand new starter.
I was quoted R3500 for a refurbished starter locally.

Thanks Jakes.
The four day delivery really sounds impressive - and the saving of more than R500 is an obvious bonus.
